Aljamain Sterling makes bold claim regarding next bout against Movsar Evloev: "I'm getting a guaranteed title shot"

Aljamain Sterling recently opened up about his upcoming bout against Movsar Evloev and made a bold claim regarding what could be at stake. The featherweights will clash at UFC 307, which is scheduled to take place at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah on Oct.5.

The former bantamweight champion is coming off an impressive featherweight debut at UFC 300, where he earned a dominant unanimous decision win over Calvin Kattar. He performed very well in his new weight division and didn't have any lingering effects as he cut down to 145 pounds rather than 135 pounds.

During his appearance on a recent episode of The MMA Hour, 'Funk Master' discussed his upcoming bout against the unbeaten Evloev. Sterling mentioned that he believes a win should certainly earn him a featherweight title shot, especially considering the current landscape of the division. He said:

"I go out there and I finish Movsar Evloev in the first round, I'm getting a guaranteed title shot. I can't see any other way around it. I 100% believe that. The guy's undefeated, he's ranked fifth right now, I believe he's 6 or 7-0 in the UFC. I go out there, former [bantamweight] champion, come up 30-27 Calvin Kattar...then dominate and finish Movsar Evloev, I think it's gonna be hard to deny it. I think it's just hard to deny me."

Aljamain Sterling discusses rule changes for grounded opponents

In addition to discussing his upcoming bout against Movsar Evloev, Aljamain Sterling weighed in on the rule changes for grounded opponents that will soon be taking into effect.

The unified rules of MMA regarding grounded opponents has been a constant debate among UFC fans. During the aforementioned appearance, Sterling mentioned that the rule changes provide clarity on what is legal and illegal going forward. He said:

"I think it's perfect. It gives us a more definitive decision on what you need to do. People play the game, they put their hand down and get mad at me because of their insecurities or lack of knowledge of what's actually happening...[The rule change] makes things clear cut, super easy to define...You can't just have a hand on the floor. And you have to actually make yourself a downed opponent."
