Aljamain Sterling responds to Marlon Vera's comments about his chin and weight cuts
Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling responded to number four-ranked contender Marlon Vera's comments. The comments were about his weight and how it ties up with his knockout losses in the past.
Sterling responded to Vera's comments on his YouTube channel and called him out for singling out his knockout loss against Marlon Moraes. 'Funk Master' explained that the knockout was more a result of circumstance than skill.
He said:
"I literally ran face-first into a knee against Marlon Moraes and I got faceplanted. Chito, Dom, Frankie, Yanez, Merab, Umar, Gardbrant, the whole bantamweight division can go do the same exact thing and get hit on the same exact spot from the force of a kick like that, and I guarantee you, you are sleeping. What are we even talking about? How are you even comparing that to that's why he's been KO-ed unconscious? That was a very particular event, a sequence of events that led to the KO-ed unconscious. So we gotta stop right there, it's not the same argument. It's not we're in an exchange and I get hit and I'm going down."

Marlon Vera had earlier criticized Sterling for cutting massive weight before his fights and depending on his bigger physicality to get results.
"That motherf****r weighs like 170 [to] 180 pounds when he is eating f*****g god knows what... That's why he is getting KO'd unconscious because of the amount of weight he cuts... like if you touch him he might go down."

Henry Cejudo puts the onus on Aljamain Sterling to make their fight happen
Former bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo is reportedly set to return to the octagon in 2023. A matchup against the current Bantamweight Champion is on the cards, but the speculation hasn't resulted in an official announcement.
Cejudo addressed concerns from other bantamweights and fans about the fight and implied that Aljamain Sterling was responsible.
“So Sean O’Malley has been talking about, ‘Why hasn’t this contract been signed? Quote-unquote, ‘I’m annoyed.’ Well guess what, Sean? Me and you both are annoyed because it’s not on my side, I can tell you that much.... For the last six months, what’d you think I’ve been doing so? I’ve been preparing... And whatever it is that I could do, I try to do, but I do it very, very limited. That being said, what I’m trying to say is, the ball is not on my court now.”
