Aljamain Sterling's rum Funk Harbor gets UFC lightweight's 5-star approval: "Had a nip with the bro in Sydney"
Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling recently launched his very own rum brand and it looks like his UFC colleague Dan Hooker is a big fan of the beverage. Sterling launched his own line of rum called 'Funk Harbor,' with the drink set to hit shelves on August 1.
UFC lightweight Hooker, however, got an early opportunity to sample the drink, and he had nothing but praise for Sterling's venture. The 'Hangman' took to X and wrote:
"Gooooood shit, 5. had a nip with the bro in Sydney"
Sterling's drink, 'Funk Harbor', is a Jamaican rum and Sterling appears to be very excited about the launch of the product, as he has been working on launching the brand for at over a year.
Sterling is optimistic about the success of the brand, as this seems to be a beloved passion project for the former champion. The drink's official website outlines the former UFC bantamweight champion's in a formal statement, which reads:
"With family growing up in the Dry Harbour Mountains, relatives would vibe out with each other in the yard, playing games of domino, loodie, and giving nuff of the usual banter that goes on amongst family. This is the love I want to recreate with similar rum blends from our beloved Jamaican island."
Hooker's five stars are high praise, because the 'Hangman' is a lover of spirits. The UFC lightweight is often seen on 'Pub Talk', a talk show where the hosts drink and discuss upcoming MMA fights with The Mac Life's Oscar Willis.
Aljamain Sterling's rum could replicate the magic that Conor McGregor's 'Proper Twelve' brought to the market
The 'Notorious' launched his whiskey, Proper No. Twelve, in Sept. 2018. Following it's release, the whiskey became very popular, and it's logo was even featured on the UFC octagon.
The Irishman eventually sold his majority stake in the brand to Proximo Spirits in a deal worth $600 million. If his rum is to see a similar level of success, Aljamain Sterling is sure to be a happy man.
He has taken to social media to look for establishments in the state of New York to serve his drink, and has indicated that they will start shipping online from August 1.
