Amir Albazi addresses Muhammad Mokaev's UFC exit, says "it sucks" the undefeated fighter was released: "I would have loved to fight him"

Amir Albazi has expressed mixed feelings about the UFC's decision to release undefeated prospect Muhammad Mokaev. While the two fighters have a public rivalry, Albazi believes Mokaev deserved the opportunity to continue his career in the promotion.

Mokaev's seventh straight UFC victory over Manel Kape at UFC 304 was unexpectedly followed by his release from the company. UFC CEO Dana White expressed frustration with the young fighter, leading to the surprising decision.

Albazi, who has always been vocal about his desire to face Mokaev, admitted that he would have enjoyed the opportunity to prove his dominance over the rising star.

Speaking to MMA Junkie recently, the Iraqi fighter said:

“To be honest, regarding the fight, I was never impressed with Mokaev, I always thought 10 out of 10 times, I would beat him. That’s just my opinion of things, but then him getting cut – I don’t like the guy, but I don’t want to take away people’s jobs. So, I still think it sucks that he never got to continue fighting in the UFC with his winning streak. I would have loved to fight him to just prove to people that I could take him on, and that wouldn’t be a problem for me. But it is what it is."

Muhammad Mokaev offers to fight for free in a bid to rejoin UFC

Muhammad Mokaev is eager to make amends with UFC management after they announced they wouldn't offer him a new contract. The 24-year-old, who boasts a 13-0 record, had his contract expire after UFC 304. To return to the octagon, Mokaev has offered to fight for free.

Speaking to MMA Junkie in a separate interview, Mokaev said:

“I said to Hunter Campbell, whatever I’ve done at the hotel, I’m ready to pay for that and fight my next fight in the UFC for free, Whatever trouble I make, I think it’s unprofessional, but it’s something that was in my heart for a long time – I had to get rid of it. And I think I’ve taken a big lesson. I want to come back to UFC and hopefully I will be back.”
