“An all-out war” - Jonathan Haggerty sizes up Superlek fight three weeks out from ONE 168: Denver
Jonathan Haggerty expects his fight against Superlek to be "an all-out war."
In April 2023, Haggerty made history by knocking out Nong-O in round one to become the new bantamweight Muay Thai world champion. Following a title defense against Felipe Lobo, 'The General' returns on September 6 against arguably the toughest opponent of his promotional tenure.
Haggerty's opposition for the ONE 168: Denver main event is flyweight kickboxing world champion Superlek. 'The Kicking Machine' holds a promotional Muay Thai record of 10-0, including a win against Thai megastar Rodtang.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Haggerty was asked about his upcoming rematch against Superlek and had this to say:
“This is going to be an exciting fight, and fans are going to enjoy my style. It’s going to be an all-out war.”
Two-sport world champion Jonathan Haggerty is riding momentum heading into their super-fight. Haggerty's last three wins are against Nong-O (Muay Thai), Fabricio Andrade (bantamweight kickboxing world title), and Felipe Lobo.
As for Superlek, he's coming off wins against Rodtang (Muay Thai), Takeru Segawa (kickboxing), and Kongthoranee (Muay Thai).
ONE 168 will represent the promotion's return to North America. Tickets for the September 6 spectacle inside the Ball Arena can be found on Ticketmaster.
Nico Carrillo plans to challenge the winner of Jonathan Haggerty vs Superlek
Jonathan Haggerty and Superlek aren't looking past ONE 168: Denver due to the dangers they each present. With that said, the winner of the upcoming super-fight should expect another tough challenge in early 2025, as Nico Carrillo has solidified himself as the number one-ranked fighter in the bantamweight Muay Thai division.
Carrillo made his ONE Championship debut in April 2023. Since then, 'King of the North' has won four consecutive fights, all by KO/TKO, including his last two against former world champion Nong-O and the highly-touted Saemapetch Fairtex.
Carrillo has repeatedly called out Haggerty and hopes to test his skills against the UK superstar. The 25-year-old will keep a close eye on the ONE 168: Denver main event because Superlek has the tools to become a two-sport world champion.
