Anatoly Malykhin shows no concern for Reug Reug’s ‘decent’ grappling: “It’s only stand-up wrestling”
Anatoly Malykhin isn't worried about 'Reug Reug' Oumar Kane's grappling skills.
Before transitioning to MMA, Kane made a name for himself in Senegalese wrestling. Since then, the 32-year-old has evolved into a well-rounded mixed martial artist, leading to three of his five wins in ONE being KO/TKOs.
On Nov. 8, Kane looks to accomplish the ultimate feat by becoming the ONE heavyweight MMA world champion. To do so, 'Reug Reug' must take out Malykhin, a three-division MMA world champion, in the ONE 169 main event.
During an interview with ONE, Malykhin was asked about his upcoming opponent's wrestling skills. The 36-year-old, who also has a background in grappling, responded by discrediting Kane's abilities:
"The only advantage of this guy is decent wrestling, but it’s only stand-up wrestling – he lacks [takedowns], lacks grappling."
ONE 169 was moved from North America to the legendary Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand. The Nov. 8 event featuring Anatoly Malykhin vs. 'Reug Reug' Oumar Kane can be seen live and for free by North American and Canadian viewers with an active Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Reug Reug looks to end Anatoly Malykhin's heavyweight reign of terror
Anatoly Malykhin has fought four times in the ONE heavyweight MMA division, winning all four by knockout. At ONE 169, the three-division world champion, who spots an undefeated resume and a 100 percent finish rate, plans to extend his legendary run with a win against a highly-touted contender.
On the contrary, 'Reug Reug' Oumar Kane has faced questions ever since losing against Kirill Grishenko in April 2021. The Senegalese heavyweight defied the odds, leading to impressive performances against Batradz Gazzaev, Jasur Mirzamukhamedov, and Marcus 'Buchecha' Almeida.
Kane's latest win against Almeida in August was the most impressive of his ONE Championship performance. Going into the matchup, Almeida held an undefeated record and seemed destined for ONE gold considering his iconic presence in BJJ before moving to MMA.
'Reug Reug' had other plans at ONE Fight Night 13, as he showcased his warrior spirit to secure a unanimous decision win.
Kane must be ready for another war at ONE 169. Malykhin has proved he's one of the most dangerous fighters on the planet and has shown no signs of slowing down.
