Anderson Silva discloses startling secret clause from Chael Sonnen boxing match: "It wasn't allowed"

Following the Spaten Fight Night event on June 15, many quickly criticized the lack of action and entertainment value that Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen 3 provided. However, Silva noted after the fact that there was no other possible outcome.

Speaking to media personnel post-fight, 'The Spider' addressed the criticism the match received. Silva claimed that the exhibition bout was never intended to find a winner and knockouts were never an option. Silva said:

"It was an exhibition match and as an exhibition match, [we weren't] allowed knockouts. It was a match with no [winner]. It was an exhibition and I believe we put on a good show."

With no knockouts allowed, neither fighter threw any resemblance of a power punch through five rounds. Sonnen was the only man to hit the canvas as the result of a slip and had the doctors check on him in the final round due to his bleeding.

Before the fight, Guilherme Cruz of MMA Fighting reported that the Brazilian National Boxing Council claimed a winner would still be determined in the fight despite its exhibition status. However, after the five rounds of an uneventful sparring-like environment, neither fighter was declared the winner.

Chael Sonnen believes he beat Anderson Silva at Spaten Fight Night

Although no winner was determined at Spaten Fight Night on June 15, Chael Sonnen believes he beat Anderson Silva in their third meeting.

Speaking with the media after the bout, Sonnen told reporters that he believes he won the first three rounds and is "definitely" still undefeated.

'The Bad Guy' continued to say that he saw the fight as a step in his training process as he believes that he will face Jorge Masvidal next in a traditional boxing fight. Meanwhile, Masvidal is currently preparing to face old rival Nate Diaz on July 6 in a 10-round professional bout.
