Angela Lee explains heritage and how she parents instilled in her the values of martial arts: “They wanted us to be able to protect ourselves”
Former undisputed ONE women's atomweight MMA world champion 'Unstoppable' Angela Lee is a ONE Championship legend and arguably the greatest female competitor in the history of the world's largest martial arts organization.
At a young age, Lee and her three other siblings were trained in self-defense by their martial arts parents, Ken and Jewelz Lee.
She told MMA legend 'Mighty Mouse' Demetrious Johnson recently in an exclusive interview on the latter's Mighty Cast channel:
"I'm Canadian American because I was born in Vancouver, BC and you know my parents were martial arts instructors there. They had, you know, a couple of gyms. So I was a mat baby. That's where I first got introduced to some martial arts and then I started training."
Lee continued:
"And I moved to Hawaii when I was seven. So in the meantime, you know, I have my younger brother, Christian, who's just two years apart, and then the rest of my siblings, we all kind of trained together and got introduced to martial arts from our parents. And then I started competing early, you know, around like six years old and just jumped into the tournaments that we would have there and I fell in love with competing."
Lee says martial arts were instilled in her when she was young so she could protect herself when necessary.
She added:
"They really wanted us to learn self-defense. They wanted us to be able to protect ourselves. And so yeah, that's kind of the journey that I followed until high school."
Today, she is a retired legend and a mental health advocate, helping young athletes.
What's next for Angela Lee?
'Unstoppable' Angela Lee has retired from professional MMA competition and now focuses her time fully on helping people, especially combat sports athletes, through her non-profit organization FightStory.
Lee established FightStory nearly a year after the tragic death of her younger sister, fellow ONE Championship athlete Victoria Lee, who took her own life in December 2022.
