Anthony Smith reveals Jamahal Hill's teammate mocking Glover Teixeira's family at UFC 283

Jamahal Hill was dominant in his first title appearance at UFC 283 as he defeated Glover Teixeira to become the UFC light heavyweight champion. Anthony Smith, who helped Hill prepare for the bout, shared how one member of the new champion's team may have gone overboard with their celebration.

Speaking on the podcast BELIEVE YOU ME, the No.6-ranked light heavyweight stated:

"I haven't even told Jamahal this. Jamahal and his crew of people - very, very respectful, but there was one guy, and I don't know who he was. I think he was extremely drunk, and after Jamahal wins, Glover's wife, his sister, they're sitting in the front row right in front of me. He was excited, I get it. He was screaming, 'That belt's coming back to America,' like kind of in their face."

Smith added:

"I don't even know that he knew who they were. I think he was just speaking to, like, Brazilians, but it happened to be right in front of Glover's wife, and then, he looks over at me and says, 'Anthony, you helped with this s**t, you helped him, this was you, too,' and I was just like, 'Oh, I don't want to be a part of this.'"

Smith added that helping Hill train for Teixeira was simply caused by a desire to take a friend up on an offer to help him.

He noted that the aforementioned situation made him feel uncomfortable as he was dragged into the trash-talk. It made him reluctant to approach the now-retired former UFC light heavyweight champion after the fight, as he was with his family.

Daniel Cormier compares Jamahal Hill's confidence to Jon Jones

Jon Jones is easily the greatest light heavyweight in the history of mixed martial arts and arguably the greatest fighter regardless of weight class. His former rival, UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, compared current light heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill's confidence to Jones'.

While speaking on his podcast, DC & RC, the former double champ stated:

"I always call back to my first title fight against Jon Jones, on January 3, 2015. On January 1, midnight, I laid in my hotel room, slept until midnight to wake up, to kiss my family into the new year. I look on Instagram - Jon Jones is out at the club partying...because he was so sure in those moments [that he'd win]. Jamahal Hill wouldn't go to sleep. He's playing video games. He's hanging out."

While Hill's confidence may compare to Jones', he has a long way to go before he is mentioned in the same breath as the former light heavyweight champion. It is unclear when his first title defense will come or against which opponent.
