“Anything can happen” - Johan Ghazali keeping his options open for future MMA stint
While Johan Ghazali is keeping his focus on the art of eight limbs, he's happy to leave the door open for a potential move into mixed martial arts.
The 17-year-old teen phenom is coming off his first setback inside the Circle, a unanimous decision loss to Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat at ONE 167 in June. The defeat snapped a five-fight win streak, but 'Jojo' isn't letting that get him down.
In fact, the Malaysian-American sensation is already looking forward to a bright future that could see him venture into other combat sports. Ghazali said in an interview with Harimau Malaya:
“I’m still unsure whether or not I’d fight in MMA in the future, but there is a possibility. As I’ve said before, I’m still young and anything can happen. So if I say not no now, maybe, in two or three years, I’d want in instead, I don’t know. Everything is far from certain.”
Ghazali will look to bounce back when he joins some one ONE Championship's biggest stars for a return to the United States on Friday, September 6.
Johan Ghazali meets Mexican slugger Josue Cruz at ONE 168: Denver on September 6
Emanating from Ball Arena in The Mile High City—Denver, Colorado—ONE 168 will feature a slew of ONE world champions, including Jonathan Haggerty, Superlek, Kade Ruotolo, and Mikey Musumeci.
Johan Ghazali will join them on their journey as he looks to bounce back against Mexican slugger Josue Cruz.
Cruz, like Ghazali, will be looking to get a win at ONE 168 after losing both of his first two outings to Walter Goncalves and Sean Climaco.
Will 'Jojo' get back to his winning ways and earn his 25th overall win, or will Cruz finally claim his first victory under the ONE banner?
