Armen Petrosyan claims Shara Magomedov knocked him out at UFC 308 with a "lucky punch": "I don't consider it a loss"

Shara Magomedov secured arguably the most hotly buzzed-about win from last weekend's card but his opponent seems to be the only one unimpressed by the finish.

Sharaputdin Magomedov scored a rare double spinning backfist win against Armen Petrosyan in the waning seconds of the second round during their UFC 308 showdown. His win went viral on social media due to the exciting and anomalous nature of the finish but Petrosyan has described it as a lucky punch in the fall out from the fight.

The post-fight interview footage of Petrosyan relaying this was posted to an Instagram account known as @1yaroslav.stepanov1 and was later re-posted to @redcorner.mma. 'Superman' was giving his first hand account of how he saw the fight playing out both prior to the finish and within the ending sequence itself.

Petrosyan felt he was winning the matchup and that he was concious althroughout, feeling like he was thoughtfully defending himself before the referee waved off the action. The middleweight combatant claimed to be speechless that the fight came to a conclusion there, went as far as to say that Magomedov was gifted a win, and claims that many others were also equally surprised at the stoppage.

Check out the interview where Petrosyan stated the same below:

Shara Magomedov and his UFC tenure so far

While that was undoubtedly the most impactful octagon win yet for Shara Magomedov, he has had some good moments during his UFC tenure so far.

The 30-year-old put together a spotless 11-0 record in pro mixed martial arts on circuits like AMC Fight Nights and RCC before entering the UFC fold in October of last year. In his debut effort with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Shara Magomedov would earn a win over one of only two men to go the distance against Alex Pereira inside the UFC.

Magomedov defeated Bruno Silva by way of unanimous decision at UFC 294 and that would end up being his lone MMA bout of 2023. He has been active through 2024 though and has stepped into the cage three times over a four month period.

The native of Russia earned his second UFC win over Antonio Trocoli with a left hook around the half way mark of round three in their June Fight Night bout. Magomedov would then compete on Aug. 3 for another Fight Night offering and notched a unanimous decision win against Michal Oleksiejczuk.

'Bullet' notched a big win here at UFC 308 and according to Shara Magomedov's coach, Gor Azizyan, the exciting 185 pounder already has his next fight locked in for February.
