BBBoC chief shrugs off blame in multiple drug controversies tainting boxing
Amir Khan's positive drug test has resulted in the British Boxing Board of Control chief making a public comment.
The council has gotten a lot more attention over the year than ever before. That's mostly thanks to their ongoing scandal with Conor Benn. 'The Destroyer' famously tested positive for the banned substance, Clomifene, last October, causing him to get suspended.
In March, the welterweight contender was cleared by the WBC to return to their rankings. At the time, Benn stated that he would have no problem evading the BBBoC's ban, as they only have influence in the U.K. To this point, the council has declined to clear the hard-hitter.

The Boxing Board of Control is now back under fire. This time, it's stemming from a positive drug test from Amir Khan last year. 'King' tested positive for Ostarine after losing to his longtime rival, Kell Brook, last February.
Given the multiple scandals, BBBoC chief Robert Smith addressed the ongoing situation in a recent interview with TalkSport. There, he was quick to note that the issue isn't with the council, stating:
“We’re going through a bit of a difficult time and I’m the first to acknowledge that. It’s not due to the board, it’s due to other people’s behaviour, which is very, very disappointing for the sport as a whole. There’s nobody more frustrated than I am and I can tell you that I’m gonna wake up in the morning thinking, ‘What’s gonna go wrong now?’ We’re a great sport, but we shoot ourselves in the foot quite a lot, which is very disappointing.”

While Conor Benn's situation with the BBBoC is still ongoing, Khan was much easier to work with. As of now, 'The Destroyer' is still attempting to fight the council in court and even threatened to sue them.
Meanwhile, the former champion has already settled with the BBBoC. Earlier this week, Khan was handed a two-year suspension effective from his defeat to 'Special K' last February.
To his credit, Amir Khan used a new defense when proclaiming his innocence from the positive test. In a recent interview with Sky Sports Boxing, the former champion stated:
"I've never cheated in my life. You can see by my performance against Kell Brook... I lost the fight. If I went in there and knocked Kell Brook out it's different."
