Belal Muhammad considered retirement if he'd lost to Leon Edwards at UFC 304: "It was so hard to get there"
Belal Muhammad recently dropped a massive revelation as he disclosed that he considered retirement if he came up short against Leon Edwards at UFC 304. It was a long path to a welterweight title shot, which resulted in the 36-year-old contemplating what could have been next for his career.
'Remember The Name' earned a unanimous decision over 'Rocky' to become the new UFC welterweight champion and did so in the former champion's home nation. It was an impressive win, especially considering the adjustment that had to be made as the main event began after 5 am local time.
During his appearance on The Fighter and The Kid, the reigning welterweight champion told Brendan Schaub that UFC 304 could have possibly been his final fight. Muhammad mentioned that it would have been very difficult to earn another title shot due to his age and noted that there was a strong possibility he could have announced his retirement had he lost to Edwards. He said:
"It was like to the point in my head where I was looking at it like, if I lost, there's a chance that I'm probably just going to be like, 'Bro, I'm hanging 'em up', because I'm not gonna get another shot at it. It was so hard to get there...I'm so desperate to do whatever it takes to get this shot that I'll try anything."
