Belal Muhammad sheds light on why he could knock out Leon Edwards: "I'm a true martial artist"

Belal Muhammad recently shed light on why he believes he could knockout Leon Edwards, which would be the complete opposite of what his perceived game plan is for their bout. The 36-year-old is set to challenge 'Rocky' for the welterweight championship at UFC 304 this Saturday, which will be a rematch of their 2021 encounter.

'Remember The Name' has since showcased that he is capable of finishing an opponent on the feet as he earned a second-round TKO win over Sean Brady and Performance of the Night bonus at UFC 280. Despite being known primarily for his wrestling, Muhammad's win over Brady was important as he showcased more tools in his arsenal.

While speaking to Home of Fight, 'Remember The Name' stated that he wouldn't shy away from getting into striking exchanges on the feet with Edwards and noted that he would be confident in his abilities. Muhammad mentioned that he will dictate where the bout is contested and will prove his doubters wrong. He said:

"I haven't shot one takedown in my last two fights. And, the first fight...[Edwards] shot on me, so I didn't shoot one takedown on him. I could take this fight wherever I want it to go. I'm a true martial artist and when I look at everybody in the division, there's nobody like me...And yeah, July 27th, you'll find out what I'm gonna do to him."

Belal Muhammad discusses possibility of fighting Conor McGregor

If Belal Muhammad manages to dethrone Leon Edwards and become the new welterweight champion at UFC 304, it would most likely result in Conor McGregor aiming at him.

'The Notorious' is a former two-division champion, but his upcoming return against Michael Chandler will be contested at 170 pounds. If McGregor is victorious, he will likely be in the mix for a potential welterweight title shot, which he has hinted at pursuing in the past.

During his pre-fight media availability ahead of UFC 304, Muhammad took a jibe at McGregor after being asked whether he would accept a bout against him. He said:

"I mean, every time you bring [McGregor] up it's a money fight right? I don't know. If he's pulled out for a freakin [broken] toe to fight Michael Chandler, he'll probably pull out for like, a broken nail to fight me."
