Belal Muhammad plans to train with Khabib Nurmagomedov in Dagestan once a fight is confirmed

Chicago-based MMA stalwart Belal Muhammad has suggested that he's likely to head to Dagestan to train with MMA legend Khabib Nurmagomedov. Since retiring from MMA in October 2020, Nurmagomedov has helped coach several fellow fighters.

He notably helped train and corner Muhammad for his recent fight against Sean Brady at UFC 280 in October 2022. Muhammad dominantly won the welterweight bout via second-round TKO, becoming the first fighter to defeat Brady in the sport of MMA.

In the aftermath of UFC 280, Belal Muhammad highlighted that training with former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov played a significant role in his incredible victory. Moreover, Muhammad has been lobbying for a UFC welterweight title shot or a number-one contender's fight next.

During a recent Instagram Live session, Muhammad indicated that once his next fight gets finalized, he plans to train with 'The Eagle' again. As seen in the video clip tweeted by the "@roganjoshmma" Twitter account, the American welterweight was asked whether he's still in touch with Russia's Nurmagomedov. Muhammad responded by stating:

"Yes, I do. I'm talking to him. We've had close calls with getting fights, so asking his opinion on them. Inshallah, we'll be in Dagestan; get something soon once we get a fight going."

Belal Muhammad and Ali Abdelaziz accuse top UFC welterweight contender of evading a fight against him

Currently, Belal Muhammad holds the No. 4 spot in the official UFC welterweight rankings, while his longtime rival Colby Covington stands at the No. 2 position. Muhammad recently expressed interest in serving as the backup/replacement fighter for the upcoming UFC welterweight title fight between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman at UFC 286 on March 18.

However, 'Remember the Name' has consistently emphasized that he'd be willing to fight Covington if the UFC can make their fight materialize. Muhammad and his manager Ali Abdelaziz recently took to Twitter to accuse 'Chaos' of ducking him (Muhammad). Abdelaziz tweeted:

"@ColbyCovMMA keeps running away from @bullyb170 like he ran in the buffet line. If Colby doesn’t wanna fight then Belal 100% deserves the next title shot."

Belal Muhammad's next fight and comeback date haven't been officially announced yet. Meanwhile, he continues to campaign for a fight against Colby Covington. 'Remember the Name' insinuated that although he's more interested in fighting for the title, he'd love to hurt Covington as well. Muhammad tweeted:

"Not really no one deserves the title shot more than me I just wanna make colby bleed his own blood"
