"Blood was going into my eye" - Jonathan Haggerty recalls his TKO loss to Superlek in their first encounter
At ONE 168, Jonathan Haggerty is set to be one-half of one of the biggest fights of the year in ONE Championship. The promotion will be making its return to Denver, Colorado on Sept. 6 for its second on-ground event in the United States.
With that in mind, ONE is bringing one of the best striking bouts of the entire year as Haggerty defends the ONE bantamweight Muay Thai world championship against flyweight kickboxing king Superlek.
Both men have produced great wins and performances as of late, making this a dream fight for fans right now.
It's also worth remembering that they have met before, many years ago before both men arrived in ONE Championship.
That fight went the way of Superlek after Haggerty was stopped in the second round due to a cut that he suffered.
'The General' reflected on that fight and outcome during a recent interview on the Sky Sports MMA Club via Spotify:
"And it went to the second round, and he caught me with an elbow, and he stopped me, because the ref stopped the fight as blood was going into my eye - which I didn't agree with - but obviously the ref was there to help you and he stopped it. And that was it."
Jonathan Haggerty is out for revenge at ONE 168
A lot has changed since the first time that Jonathan Haggerty met Superlek before they made the move to ONE Championship.
With that in mind, the Brit will want to make a statement in order to show how far he has come since the referee called a stop to their previous encounter.
Beating Superlek on Sept. 6 will be his biggest win to date and prove that he belongs to be considered amongst the best of the best right now.
ONE 168 will air live from the Ball Arena in Denver in US prime time on Sept. 6.
