"Both are racists anyways" - Fans react as Donald Trump promises to be cage-side to watch Colby Covington take on Leon Edwards

It's no secret that welterweight star Colby Covington is one of Donald Trump's favorite MMA fighters.

The former president of the United States is a combat sports fanatic and has attended numerous UFC events in the past. Apparently, he'll be in attendance at UFC 296 when Covington takes on Leon Edwards for the 170-pound title.

During a recent interview with MMA reporter James Lynch, 'Chaos' confirmed that the billionaire businessman would be cage-side at the event.

Covington's proclamation has taken the fight world by storm, with many taking to Twitter praising and dissing the fighter-politician duo. Let's check out some responses below.

When Colby Covington spoke about the surreal congratulatory call from Donald Trump

Few people are fortunate enough to receive a congratulatory message directly from the president of the United States, and Colby Covington is one of those people.

In the wake of his TKO victory against former welterweight champion Tyron Woodley at UFC Fight Night 178 in 2020, the then-sitting president of the US, Trump, congratulated 'Chaos' on air through a phone call.

In a 2021 segment of television personality Candace Owens' podcast, the welterweight fighter reminisced about the surreal moment, stating that it was "career-defining":

"Yeah, it was surreal. It was my career-defining moment. You know, to have someone I admire so much, who is a hero to me and my idol to have me calling and celebrating and saying how big of a fan he is of me. [I was like] Dude, you're my idol, I'm a big fan of you. I appreciate what you do for America, for the people."
