Breaking: Dana White confirms UFC 300 clash between two former champions
UFC CEO Dana White recently took to social media and confirmed the addition of an exciting bantamweight fight between two former champions for the monumental UFC 300 event in April. He also announced a host of other fights set to go down in March.
In a recent post on X, White officially confirmed that former flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo will go up against former bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt in a 135-pound contest at UFC 300 on April 13. The milestone event is set to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Both men had notably expressed a keen interest in fighting each other, with Garbrandt specifically asking for the fight after his most recent first-round knockout win over Brian Kelleher at UFC 296. After the Brazilian accepted the callout, the promotion obliged both fighters with a spot on one of their biggest cards ever.
Interestingly, this is the second time these two men have been booked for a fight. They were previously scheduled to fight in a flyweight title match in November 2020, but 'No Love' was forced to pull out because of a biceps injury.
This is the sixth bout announced for the UFC 300 event, with Zhang Weili vs. Yan Xiaonan, Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan, Jiri Prochazka vs. Alexsandar Rakic, Aljamain Sterling vs. Calvin Kattar, and Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage already confirmed.
Apart from this blockbuster fight, White also announced some other exciting matchups. He confirmed that Tai Tuivasa will make his return to the octagon against Marcin Tybura at UFC Vegas 87 on March 16.
Former women's strawweight champion Rose Namajunas has also been booked for a fight against Amanda Ribas for an event on March 23 at the UFC Apex. Finally, White announced that a welterweight barnburner between Sean Brady and Vincente Luque will serve as the headliners for UFC Atlantic City on March 30.
