Breaking: Floyd Mayweather set to face retired English MMA fighter Aaron Chalmers in exhibition bout in February
It appears that Floyd Mayweather will be returning to the squared circle to fight retired MMA fighter Aaron Chalmers in an exhibition bout.
Mayweather made the announcement on his Instagram account and obviously remains confident that he will get his hand raised in the exhibition bout. He posted an official fight poster with details on the venue and date, writing:
"Different face, different name, same results. #London we are still rocking and rolling on Feb. 25th at the O2 Arena. Tickets will be on sale soon. Stay tuned!!"
'Money' has been competing in exhibition bouts since 2018 and has competed against an array of personalities and fighters. The list includes YouTubers and social media influencers like Logan Paul and Deji, his former sparring partner Don Moore, and Japanese MMA fighters Tenshin Nasukawa and Mikuru Asakura.
His upcoming opponent, Chalmers, has an MMA record of 5-2. He hasn't competed since 2020 when he lost a unanimous decision to Austin Clem at Bellator 240. Prior to his MMA career, 'The Joker' gained reality TV fame from his stints on Geordie Shore and Ex on the Beach.
Floyd Mayweather event possibly going head-to-head with Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury
The timing of Floyd Mayweather's next exhibition bout is quite interesting as it is scheduled to take place on the same day as Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury.
Both events taking place on the same day could possibly impact each other's viewership numbers for the worse. Paul and Fury will be competing in Saudi Arabia, while 'Money' and 'The Joker' will be competing at the O2 Arena in London.
It will be interesting to see if 'The Problem Child' will address the boxing great's exhibition bout taking place on the same day as his own. Could he even one-up the former world champion by generating more viewers for his bout?
