BREAKING: Khabib Nurmagomedov's undefeated cousin Umar booked to fight Raoni Barcelos in January
Khabib Nurmagomedov's cousin Umar is slated to return to the octagon at a UFC Fight Night on January 14. The 15-0 undefeated bantamweight prospect is booked to fight Brazilian veteran Raoni Barcelos in the first UFC event of 2023.
ESPN MMA's Brett Okamoto first reported the matchup, which will go down at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Khabib Nurmagomedov's cousin Umar has three UFC wins under his belt, two of which came by the way of rear-naked-choke submissions. The 26-year-old Dagestani prospect is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over fellow up-and-comer Nate Maness.
Meanwhile, Raoni Barcelos signed with the UFC in 2018 and went on a five-fight winning streak that was snapped by a majority decision loss to Timur Valiev in June 2021.
While he went on to drop another decision against Victor Henry, the 35-year-old has since bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Trevin Jones last month.
The January 14 Fight Night will be headlined by a middleweight clash between Kelvin Gastelum and Nassourdine Imavov.
Other fighters competing on the card include:
Jarno Errens vs. David Onama
Carlos Hernandez vs. Allan Nascimento
Geoff Neal vs. Shavkat Rakhmonov
Jimmy Flick vs. Jeff Molina
Raquel Pennington vs. Ketlen Vieira
Daniel Argueta vs. Isaac Dulgarian
