BREAKING: UFC announces Jose Aldo the first Hall of Fame inductee of 2023 in tear-jerking tribute

Jose Aldo was paid a heartwarming tribute during the UFC 283 broadcast. The promotion played a reel of Aldo's career highlights in front of his home fans in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as 'Junior' sat in attendance.

The color commentators also announced that 'King of Rio' will be inducted into the UFC's Hall of Fame during the International Fight Week in July, making it the first inductee announcement of the year.

The video started with Aldo's words where the former WEC and UFC champion talked about leaving a legacy behind as opposed to merely winning a title. 'Junior' said:

"My dream since the beginning of my career was to leave a legacy. That's what I have always fought for. I didn't want to be just a champion. I wanted to leave a legacy."

The clip also included messages from Aldo's former opponent Urijah Faber, UFC superstars Israel Adesanya, Sean O'Malley, Daniel Cormier, Michael Chandler, Aljamain Sterling and Brazilian UFC stars like Charles Oliveira, Renato Moicano, Rafael Assuncao, and Amanda Ribas, among others.

Jose Aldo's emotional retirement conversation with Dana White

Jose Aldo officially announced his retirement on September 18, the same day that his wife Vivianne Perreira, gave birth to their son, Jose Aldo III. 'Junior' subsequently revealed that he had a moving conversation with Dana White regarding his retirement, which played a role in his son's birth.

Aldo texted White about retirement who told him that the UFC and the UFC PI's doors would always stay open to him. The former featherweight champ shared White's message with his wife, who was then in the 36th week of her pregnancy.

Aldo wife got emotional and was hospitalized due to a hike in her blood pressure. Vivianne Perreira was diagnosed with preeclampsia, a dangerous pregnancy complication, and had to deliver the child early. Thanking White for his unintentional help, Aldo said on MMA Fighting's Trocação Franca podcast:

"Even unintentionally, he’s always helped me in my life. I get emotional talking about it. Not that I owe him my son’s life, but it was after his message that got Vivianne emotional, her blood pressure going up, and we taking her to the hospital. He was born with all odds against him, but thanks to Dana… God always puts good people in our lives to help us."
