'Buchecha' says loss to ‘Reug Reug’ was ‘a good experience’: “I tested myself a lot in several areas”

Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend turned mixed martial artist Marcus 'Buchecha' Almeida has no regrets despite suffering his first-ever loss in an MMA competition more than a year ago.

The 34-year-old American Top Team / Evolve MMA representative dropped a three-round unanimous decision to Senegalese wrestling star Oumar 'Reug Reug' Kane at ONE Fight Night 13 on Prime Video in August of 2023, snapping an impressive four-fight winning streak.

The experience, however, was beneficial to his career overall, according to Almeida.

Speaking to ONE Championship in a recent interview, Almeida talked about that fight, and what he learned from it.

The 34-year-old BJJ icon said:

"I fought three rounds, which had never happened before in my career. So, despite the defeat, a result I didn't want, it was a good experience to fight the three rounds. And I tested myself a lot in several areas of fighting that I hadn't tested myself before. But that's it, let's move on to the next one. I'm stoked, anxious, and can't wait to fight again."

Now, 'Buchecha' is getting ready to make his highly anticipated return to action, armed with the improvements to his game that will take his MMA career to the next level.
