“Building opportunities for you” - Retired MMA superstar Angela Lee says fighters must capitalize on their prime
Former undisputed ONE women's atomweight MMA world champion 'Unstoppable' Angela Lee was considered one of the best fighters in the world at the height of her powers.
Lee was a dominant world champion in the ONE Championship and was unbeaten in her division, where she reigned for six years from 2016. She officially retired from professional competition in 2022 following the tragic death of her younger sister, fellow ONE athlete Victoria.
The Singaporean-American superstar was in her prime when she retired from the sport. But she undoubtedly used that time wisely to build her legend.
Lee recently appeared as a guest on Demetrious Johnson's 'Mighty Cast' podcast on YouTube, and she had some advice for young, up-and-coming fighters who want to make it big in mixed martial arts -- take advantage of your prime years.
'Unstoppable' said:
"It's all they know. But it's like building the skill set and building opportunities for you. While you're in your prime. Afterwards it is so important, you know, and I just wish more people kind of started planning and thinking about that."
Today, Angela Lee has traded her fighting career to answer her true calling. She now helps people suffering from depression and thoughts of suicide through her non-profit organization, Fight Story.
Angela Lee has no regrets about leaving her fight career behind: "At this point in my life, I truly value peace"
'Unstoppable' Angela Lee has not looked back since hanging up her gloves for good. The 28-year-old is fulfilled in helping people now and says she tries her best to surround herself with positivity.
She told Demetrious Johnson:
"Right now, at this point in my life, I truly value peace. Yeah, absolutely. You know peace of mind and real relationships, like speaking to people who I can connect with, who understand me, who listen. I can understand them."
