Burmese legend Aung La N Sang motivated to “put on some more great fights” after Denver tussle against Shamil Erdogan
Aung La N Sang is adamant that his legendary career is far from over.
The Burmese legend is on a renaissance run, and his next stop is a middleweight MMA matchup against the undefeated Shamil Erdogan at ONE 168: Denver on September 6 at Ball Arena.
Aung La has all the momentum in the world, and he believes he's due for multiple high-profile fights once he's done with his assignment against Erdogan in Colorado.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Aung La N Sang said he's always been in peak shape to mount another run at the ONE middleweight MMA world title.
The former ONE middleweight and light heavyweight MMA world champion said:
"I'm extremely motivated. I lead a pretty simple, healthy life. My body is still good and my mind is still good. So let's put on some more great fights."
Aung La is one of the greatest MMA fighters in ONE Championship history. He was the promotion's second-ever two-division world champion when he simultaneously held the ONE middleweight and light heavyweight world titles from February 2018 to October 2020.
Despite losing the world titles to Reinier de Ridder, 'The Burmese Python' has slithered his way back to superb form and is now riding an impressive three-fight winning streak.
Aung La scored two straight knockout wins over Japanese legend Yushin Okami and Gilberto Galvao, then had a submission finish over Fan Rong at ONE Fight Night 10 in Denver.
He now aims to push that winning streak to four straight matches when he faces Erdogan in the city of his last victory.
Tickets for ONE 168 are available at Ticketmaster.
Aung La N Sang says beating Shamil Erdogan remains his top priority
Aung La N Sang can book a world title shot against three-division king Anatoly Malykhin if he gets past Shamil Erdogan at ONE 168.
The 39-year-old, however, isn't concerned with hypotheticals and would rather focus on the fight against Erdogan.
In an interview with ONE Championship, Aung La said:
"The longest-reigning champ, the most title defenses, and on a four-fight winning streak should get the title [shot], but really nothing matters more than Shamil."
Malykhin is the current holder of the ONE middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight MMA world titles.
