"Can I get some Wonderbread shorts?" - Welterweight veteran reacts to Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya's custom shorts for UFC 305
Before their title fight at UFC 305, Israel Adesanya and Dricus du Plessis were presented with their custom shorts, with welterweight title challenger Stephen Thompson now eyeing one for himself.
Custom shorts have been a welcome addition to the UFC roster, allowing fighters to choose their desired pattern. Doing away with the monotony of solid-color shorts, the UFC, along with its manufacturing partner Venum, has offered a handful of fighters the opportunity to rock their choice of pattern in the octagon. The likes of Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, Zhang Weili, and Alex Pereira illuminated the marquee stage of UFC 300 in custom designs in April 2024.
Now, ahead of their clash at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia, the Nigerian-born Kiwi and South African will join the prestigious club to wear customized shorts in the octagon. The UFC revealed the design patterns on Instagram.
'Wonderboy' Thompson expressed his desire to have his own custom shorts, commenting on the aforementioned post:
"Can I get some Wonderbread shorts?"
Thompson, despite his exceptional talent, has struggled in the cage recently, going 3-5 in his last eight fights. In his most recent appearance, 'Wonderboy' was rear-naked-choked by Shavkat Rakhmonov in December 2023. Meanwhile, his last win came against the always-game Kevin Holland in December 2022.
It will be interesting to see whether the new custom shorts, if he gets one, boost his luck and brighten his stars as the South Carolina native approaches the end of his career.
Dricus du Plessis promises a banger against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305
As we inch closer to the middleweight clash at UFC 305, both fighters look to make a statement down under in spectacular fashion. Before the two gentlemen face off for the 185-pound strap, Du Plessis promised to bring the heat, claiming that there is never a dull moment with him in the octagon, regardless of the opposition.
Speaking to Submission Radio, the 30-year-old South African detailed how he's going to demolish 'Stylebender' in explosive fashion:
“I have no doubt in my mind that this fight is going to be an absolute banger of a fight. Like I said, I’ve never been in a boring fight and I know he has been, but not with me. When you’re in that octagon with me, there’s no way it’s a boring fight because I will be coming and trying to take your head off for 25 minutes."
