Chael Sonnen challenges "overrated" Jorge Masvidal next to fight with special stipulations: "OK, stupid, put that in the contract"
Chael Sonnen recently took a dig at former UFC BMF champion Jorge Masvidal. Sonnen challenged Masvidal for a boxing match with some special conditions.
This came after Sonnen's exhibition boxing match against UFC Hall of Famer Anderson Silva. The retired MMA fighters competed at Spaten Fight Night, a combat sports event in Saulo Paulo, Brazil, on June 15.
Sonnen was boxing for the first time, and the inexperience showed from the beginning as Silva landed more consistently and picked up the volume and tempo of the fight.
Sonnen seemed to be losing ground by Round 3 as his motions grew increasingly strained. Silva appeared to be holding back from making full-power shots in order to save energy for the last round, even though he was landing with greater accuracy. It seemed as though the former middleweight champion had won all five rounds. Nevertheless, the exhibition match ended without a winner.

During the post-fight press conference, Sonned expressed his desire to face Masvidal in a boxing match. He said:
''This whole thing was just part of the process. I’m boxing Jorge Masvidal. I got called out for that fight, I have agreed to that fight...Masvidal’s a little bit overrated, in all fairness, within his own mind. I can’t remember the last time that he won a fight. He gave me a threat, he said, ‘I won’t even use my right hand. I’ll put that in the contract.’ I’m like, ‘OK, stupid, put that in the contract.' Then he talks about, ‘I’m going to pay you $10 million.’ Well, I didn’t ask for $10 million, but again, stupid, put that in the contract. Just keep talking.''
Sonnen continued:
"It just keeps getting worse for Jorge Masvidal. There’s some people you play with, there’s some people you don’t; put me in the category of ‘don’t.’ Do not challenge me unless you want to fight me.” [H/t: MMA Fighting]
Chael Sonnen announces boxing match against Jorge Masvidal in October
A significant announcement was made by MMA legend and well-known analyst Chael Sonnen during last month's episode of Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast on YouTube.
Sonnen spoke with fellow UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier about the future of his fighting career. The first was his boxing match against Anderson Silva, a fellow MMA legend with whom he had a legendary and well-documented feud from the past.
However, Sonnen revealed that he is set to face Jorge Masvidal in a boxing match scheduled for October.
''If we're just letting all the secrets out, I got this thing coming up with Jorge Masvidal in October of this year and that thing's been coming up since ESPN sequestered me in Miami in [UFC] 299 to protect me from Jorge Masvidal."
