Chael Sonnen and Henry Cejudo share advice with up-and-coming UFC lightweight and Olympian Mark Madsen
Chael Sonnen and Henry Cejudo have shared their advice regarding self-promotion and more with Mark Madsen ahead of the latter's upcoming fight.
Madsen (12-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) is scheduled to face Grant Dawson in a lightweight bout at UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs. Lemos on November 5th.
Mark Madsen captured the silver medal in the 75 kg category in Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2016 Olympics. The highly-accomplished Danish wrestler made his MMA debut in 2013, and has fought in the UFC since 2019.
In a video posted to wrestling Olympic gold medalist and former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo's YouTube channel, Cejudo and Chael Sonnen addressed multiple topics. Sonnen notably referenced how freestyle wrestling Olympic gold medalist and WWE legend Kurt Angle promoted himself by being unashamed and boastful about his accolades. Sonnen stated:
"Kurt's [gimmick] was so great. You know, Kurt's still wearing his medals. It was true, and it was obnoxious, and it was disgusting, and it was awesome. It was also 25 years ago, and I remember it perfectly."
Chael Sonnen jested that Mark Madsen could wear a gold medal, or he could perhaps wear his silver medal and say it proves he's the best although the medal's for second place. Furthermore, Henry Cejudo asserted that Madsen shouldn't worry about people's opinions on his persona. Having trained 'The Olympian' for his upcoming fight, Cejudo said:
"Everything that Chael is talking about -- you have to be okay with it. You have to be willing to be like, be very carefree. And that's something about me. Bro, since I was a kid, I've always been a pretty carefree person. I just didn't care."

'The Korean Zombie' on Mark Madsen outwrestling UFC great Kamaru Usman
Lauding grappling savant Mark Madsen for his exceptional wrestling prowess, UFC featherweight veteran Chan Sung Jung aka 'The Korean Zombie' once narrated a story of the Dane outwrestling MMA great Kamaru Usman. Back when Usman held the UFC welterweight title and was undefeated in the UFC, not to mention had never been taken down inside the octagon; Madsen managed to outwrestle him.
In an interview that transpired last year, Jung claimed that Madsen happily told him how he took Usman down during a training session. Revisiting the time Madsen bested NCAA Division II wrestling champion Usman not once but twice, Jung explained:
"Apparently, Kamaru Usman told Mark Madsen that there hasn't been a single person who has succeeded in taking him down. Mark took down Kamaru twice."
