Chael Sonnen responds as LW fighter blames Colby Covington's corner for worsening UFC Tampa cut: "If I want your opinion I’ll beat it out of you"

A UFC fighter recently gave his take on Colby Covington's injury at UFC Tampa, claiming that Covington made it worse by touching it and blamed his corner for it. That didn't sit well with Chael Sonnen, who hit back at the individual in a social media rant.

For context, Covington faced Joaquin Buckley this past weekend at UFC Tampa. Buckley's vicious attacks left 'Chaos' bloodied as he was cut above his right eye. As a result, the cage-side doctor intervened and determined that Covington was unfit to continue. Eventually 'New Mansa' was declared winner via knockout in the third round.

The fighter in question is UFC lightweight Chase Hooper, who took to X and shared his reaction to Covington's injury. Hooper argued that the 36-year-old undid the cutman's work by repeatedly touching the wound, which caused him to bleed again.

The 25-year-old also blamed Covington's cornermen, claiming they should have stopped the former interim welterweight champion from doing so. He wrote:

''If I were Colby’s corner, I’d be screaming at him to stop touching the cut. He’s undoing the cut man’s work by immediately touching it. Had himself leaking again before the round started #UFCTampa.''

However, Sonnen, who was present in Covington's corner didn't agree with Hooper's remarks, and responded by writing:

''Pipe down. If I want your opinion I’ll beat it out of you. I’m kidding, but I’m not. no really, just playing but serious.''

In response, Hooper justified his statement, writing:

''Damn, you’re up early. Would never criticize the goat! Probably hard to see anyways since he was doing it right as you guys were leaving the cage. Just was bugging the hell out of me to see since I try to consciously not touch my face or blow my nose in fights.''

Chael Sonnen reacts to Colby Covington's loss at UFC Tampa

Colby Covington was unsuccessful in getting back to the win column as he suffered a beatdown from Joaquin Buckley at UFC Tampa, resulting in a cut on his eye.

Chael Sonnen, who cornered Covington, recently posted a video on his YouTube channel claiming that given the quantity of blood streaming down 'Chaos' face, he would have halted the fight if not for the doctor.

''Colby was getting hit on his feet with everything you could do. I mean, he's busted open so bad the doctor has to look at it three times. Twice, he stops the action to let it keep going. The third time he says, 'man, we can't go anymore'. I was going to stop that fight. I already grabbed the towel. When the doctor came in for the third time and I'm watching that blood, it's not stopping and it is going into the eye and that's the only thing you're really looking for."
