Chael Sonnen revisits being jealous of John Cena as WWE superstar announces retirement

Chael Sonnen has shed light on his past social media spats with WWE superstar John Cena. Sonnen, known for his flamboyant personality and online antics, once frequently mocked Cena's inspirational posts.

Cena, a 16-time world champion in WWE, has garnered a massive social media following, often sharing motivational messages with his fans. However, Sonnen would consistently target these motivational quotes with sarcasm and ridicule.

In a recent podcast episode with Daniel Cormier, Sonnen admitted that his online attacks stemmed from jealousy. He acknowledged Cena's immense social media presence, which dwarfed Sonnen's own following at the time.

Appearing in a recent episode of his podcast with Daniel Cormier, 'The Bad Guy' said:

“All right DC let me tell you this that was from jealousy I think like any mean tweet that anybody puts out that's where it comes from. I was trying to build my social media and I had done a good job and I had a little stick and I don't follow anybody and I only put out so much, this was my little stick and it was catching on."

The 47-year-old elaborated on his frustration, claiming Cena's seemingly generic motivational quotes weren't genuine and paled in comparison to his own:

I go check out John Cena’s he had 11 times the followers I did. But the problem with it, very clearly was not him. Come on, putting out these motivational quotes that you ripped off from some fortune cookie somewhere. Like this wasn't even him he's got a fake account doing 11 times the numbers that I'm doing with a real account that's where that came from.”

Chael Sonnen suggests losing title could fast-track Alex Pereira's move to heavyweight

Chael Sonnen has proposed a controversial path for light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira to move up to heavyweight.

Pereira, who captured the 205-pound title with a knockout win over Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303, has expressed interest in competing at heavyweight. While UFC president Dana White initially seemed hesitant, Pereira's dominance appeared to be swaying his opinion.

Sonnen, in a recent YouTube video, acknowledged the challenges a champion faces when switching divisions. However, he pointed to Pereira's own experience as a blueprint. Pereira transitioned from middleweight to light heavyweight after a title loss. Sonnen argued that losing his light heavyweight title could similarly pave the way for a heavyweight move.

‘The Bad Guy’ said:

"This already happened once. We got [Alex] Pereira from middleweight, who we thought was very good, we got him to light heavyweight but how did we do it?...It was by getting him beat. He was free to go and do whatever he wanted and the same is true now. The conversation for Pereira at heavyweight aside from illness or injury...there's not going to be a viable way to sidestep [Magomed] Ankalaev."
