Chael Sonnen shares incredible career advice for Jorge Masvidal
Chael Sonnen is offering some advice to Jorge Masvidal as he looks to snap his losing skid and return to the win column in 2023.
Sonnen uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he talked about Masvidal's current status in the UFC welterweight division. He offered incredible advice on how the 'BMF' title holder should approach the negotiations for his next bout.
The 45-year-old said:
"Masvidal appears to me to be putting a lot of eggs in the basket of Kamaru Usman doesn't show up in March, he steps in. Three-piece and a soda gets answered for. It's a risk, it's an outside shot." {4:59 - 5:16}
The former UFC middleweight title challenger believes that 'Gamebred' can target a bout with Leon Edwards regardless of whether it's a title fight or not. He mentioned that if Masvidal were to publicly say Edwards is his next opponent, it could put the wheels in motion:
"Coming out telling the world, 'Don't call for me. Don't ask me to fight anybody. My next fight is gonna be Leon...He's got Kamaru {Usman} in March so I probably won't see him till July after he gets his a** kicked.' All of a sudden people are going to be looking that a little bit different. That would be one option, but that's the way to approach the Leon situation." {5:34 - 6:24}
Chael Sonnen raised a valid point in that Masvidal could get a fight with 'Rocky' should he continue to target him. He said that their well-documented history would make it easier for the UFC to sell the fight.

Chael Sonnen gave his thoughts on some appealing fights for Jorge Masvidal in the UFC's welterweight division and believes Nick Diaz could be an option.
Chael Sonnen uploaded a video to his YouTube channel where he discussed the possibility of Masvidal replacing Kamaru Usman if he's not medically cleared in time to fight Leon Edwards at UFC 286. While speaking about potential opponents should the fight not materialize, he brought up Diaz, saying:
"Nick {Diaz} was at Madison Square Garden. Nick was in the corner for the 'BMF' title, but Masvidal never co-signed it. He never went for that...I don't know why. I know he knows how big that would be and I know he knows I'm right that that would work, that's obvious but he didn't do it and I don't predict he's gonna." {8:18 - 8:42}
'Gamebred' vs. Diaz would be a big fight for the UFC and they could also have the 'BMF' title at stake to add more incentive.
