Chael Sonnen vs. Jorge Masvidal: 'The Bad Guy' announces bombshell boxing match set for October

MMA legend and renowned analyst 'The Bad Guy' Chael Sonnen just made a huge announcement at the Good Guy/Bad Guy episode of ESPN MMA on YouTube.

Speaking to fellow UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier, the silver-tongued Sonnen addressed some huge happenings in the immediate future of his fighting career. First was his upcoming boxing bout with fellow MMA legend Anderson Silva, whom he had a well-documented and epic rivalry with in the past.

However, the bigger bombshell dropped was another boxing match set in October: Chael Sonnen vs. former UFC BMF king Jorge 'Gamebred' Masvidal. Sonnen said

"If we're just letting all the secrets out, I got this thing coming up with Jorge Masvidal in October of this year and that thing's been coming up since ESPN sequestered me in Miami in [UFC] 299 to protect me from Jorge Masvidal."

Check out Chael Sonnen's full comment below:

Sonnen has been retired from professional fighting for five years and is now 47 years old. Having back-to-back high-profile boxing matches seems like quite a way to get back into the game.

Jorge Masvidal's past comments on settling score with Chael Sonnen inside boxing ring

The potential Chael Sonnen - Jorge Masvidal boxing match in October will be the culmination of a social media scuffle that has been going on for some time now. One of the highlights of the ongoing beef was when Masvidal made very specific intentions to harm 'The Bad Guy'.

The Cuban-American slugger, who is set to face Nate Diaz in a boxing match in July, spoke to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour earlier this year and said:

"Chael would be one guy that I would love to break his eye orbital. Just because he's such a cheating f***. Like he's gotten caught with more substances in his body than any other competitor in the history. At one time he had like six or seven different substances in his body for one of his title fights. It's like you're a f****** piece of s*** human being."

This is one the fighting community would love to see. Both Sonnen and Masvidal are expert trash-talkers and the build-up alone will be epic on this one. As far as match-ups go, Masvidal will have the advantage as his style will favor the boxing ruleset, while Sonnen is a more grappling-based fighter.
