Charles Oliveira breaks 'bad boy' narrative around Ian Machado Garry: "Actually a great guy"
Charles Oliveira recently opened up about his relationship with Ian Machado Garry and disputed ideas about his character. He detailed how the Irishman joined his gym and lavished praise on his professionalism and personality.
'The Future' famously joined the Chute Box gym after reportedly falling out with his previous gym amid his well-documented beef with Leon Edwards. The Brazilian gym accepted him and Machado Garry has since expressed gratitude toward them and noted that he represents Brazil as well as his native Ireland.
During his latest appearance on Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson's JAXXON PODCAST, the former lightweight champion opened up on 'The Future' training at his gym:
"When we go to Chute Box, they don't open his gyms just to do training camp, so you gotta be a part of the team. [Machado Garry's wife] asked, 'No, he needs a place to stay.' And that's kinda how I moved out there to start doing my training camps.
"And one thing that I said about Ian Garry is like...they think he's a bad boy. I took him to his house. So I see how humble he was and everything. I said that 'Ian Garry is actually a great guy.'"

Charles Oliveira opens up about his experience changing teams
In addition to discussing Ian Machado Garry changing teams, Charles Oliveira opened up about his own experience changing teams and why he decided to do so.
During the aforementioned appearance, Oliveira mentioned that family comes first and wanted to put himself in the best possible environment in order to improve and become successful:
"When I'm trying to make the transition for the new team, there's always gonna be [a] bad picture, but one thing that I always focus on was the bigger picture. I thought about my family, changing my environment, and bringing opportunity.
"In order to do things like that, you gotta sacrifice. You gotta take the risk, so that's what I did...My priority was just to get better to be able to help my family."
