Charles Oliveira shares thoughts on potentially fighting Alexander Volkanovski

It looks like a new superfight is brewing. Former lightweight kingpin Charles Oliveira seems to be all in favor of fighting former featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski.

According to a report by @HappyPunch on X, Oliveira is excited at the prospect of taking on the Australian:

"Why not? It would be a great honor. A great fighter, a great name. So why not?... Waiting to see what the UFC will bring for us."

While Oliveira and Volkanovski are two of the best talents on the UFC roster, their recent run in the promotion has left a lot to be desired.

'Do Bronx' is 3-2 in his last five and suffered a split decision loss against Arman Tsarukyan in his most recent outing.

Volkanovski, on the other hand, has been in a slump recently. Once an indomitable force in the promotion, he has lost his last two fights via KO. In his most recent outing at UFC 298, 'The Great' suffered his very first loss at 145 pounds, as he was laid out cold in the second round by Ilia Topuria.

Volkanovski vs. Oliveira will most likely take place at 155 pounds. Given that Tsarukyan is primed to take on the incumbent lightweight champion next, this fight will likely have little bearing on the title picture in the short term.

Nevertheless, a win against 'The Great' might fetch Oliveira the winner of Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan.

When Charles Oliveira warned Alexander Volkanovski about moving up to lightweight

Alexander Volkanovski's run at the UFC's lightweight division has been rather lackluster. He is 0-2 at 155 pounds, with one of those losses having come via knockout.

In 2022, Charles Oliveira warned 'The Great' against his ambitions of crossing over to the marquee division. Speaking to The Schmo about the Australian's lightweight aspirations, 'Do Bronx' opined:

"He is a very tough guy. I know he has made history at 145 pounds, but everybody who thinks about moving up to 155 has to think very well because it's a very, very hard division."
