Christian Lee hoping to follow Demetrious Johnson's cue once it's time to hang it up: "I plan to exit the game on top"

Two-division MMA world champion Christian Lee had the absolute pleasure of witnessing one of the greats of the sport, Demetrious Johnson, officially hang up his gloves at ONE 168: Denver last month.

'Mighty Mouse' received a fitting tribute from the world's largest martial arts organization in an emotionally charged moment that will forever be remembered in the annals of history.

While 'The Warrior' has no plans of retiring anytime soon, he wishes to go out the same way as 'DJ' when it's time for him to walk into the sunset.

The Singaporean-American superstar shared in an interview with Cageside Press:

"So Demetrious Johnson did it smart, kind of like how Khabib did it as well - undefeated as a champ. That’s the best time to leave. And you definitely shouldn’t stay in this sport any longer than your heart wants to stay in it, or else there’s no reason to keep fighting. So when that time comes, I plan to exit the game on top."

Lee does have a lot of fights ahead of him and we all can't wait for his upcoming return. The double champ will put his lightweight MMA world title on the line against Alibeg Rasulov at ONE 169: Atlanta on Nov. 8 at State Farm Arena.

Christian Lee praises Demetrious Johnson's legendary career

In the same interview, Christian Lee marveled about Demetrious Johnson's remarkable resume and the impact he made in mixed martial arts.

'The Warrior' certainly supports 'DJ's claim as the MMA GOAT and was happy that a well-loved fighter like him was able to go out on his own terms:

"He had an amazing career in the UFC and then won a ONE Championship belt. He's accomplished all he needs to accomplish, so if he's ready to hang it up, then I'm happy for him," he said.
