Colby Covington emerges from the shadows to troll Jake Paul after loss to Tommy Fury, creates pandemonium among fans
Colby Covington recently emerged from the shadows to troll Jake Paul after the YouTuber-turned-boxer suffered his first pro-boxing loss to Tommy Fury. Covington's comments on the Bleacher Report photo sent many fans into a frenzy, with many praising 'Chaos' and some bashing him.
Covington has been quiet since his high-profile fight against friend-turned-foe Jorge Masvidal at UFC 272. The generally brash 'Chaos' is known for taking shots at practically anyone who finds themselves in his wrong books. However, a while has passed since Covington made MMA headlines.
Check out Covington's comments aimed at Jake Paul, and the replies in the thread below:
Here's what Covington's comments read:
"[Jake] Paul ain't a real fighter. The real fight is him trying to pronounce letters with that lisp."
Many fans replied to Colby Covington, calling him a 'savage' and many others were pleading with the No.2-ranked welterweight to return to the octagon. Others replied by saying that Colby Covington was just jealous of Jake Paul's success.
The last time Covington was in the news was when he was allegedly assaulted by 'Gamebred' outside a steakhouse in Miami Beach. 'Chaos' reported that was sucker-punched by Masvidal, which left him with a couple of injuries. Apart from promoting his endorsements on his social handles and a brief appearance with Candance Owens promoting her documentary film, Covingtin hasn't made much news in the MMA world.
In the aforementioned picture posted by Bleacher Report, UFC and WWF (WWE) veteran Ken Shamrock asked everyone to stop hating on Jake Paul thereby giving him attention. Here's what Shamrock said:
"Stop already you are hating on a guy who has succeeded in capturing everyone's attention. I am not saying he is a good fighter but he is very successful at what he has done."
Shamrock's comments received around 4,000 reactions and close to 900 comments.
What's next for Colby Covington in the UFC?
Colby Covington should have already returned to the octagon after his UFC 272 victory over Jorge Masvidal. 'Chaos' spoke a lot of thrash to 'Gamebred', and ended up winning the bout.
However, the loss didn't sit well for Masvidal, who seemed like he wasn't done fighting. Weeks after their bout, 'Gamebred' jumped Covington outside a Miami Beach steakhouse, which left the No.2-ranked welterweight contender with some injuries.
Masvidal is currently being tried for aggravated battery and one count of criminal mischief, and the proceedings are on-going. While Jorge Masvidal is fighting Gilbert Burns in the UFC 285 co-main event, there is no news of Covington being booked for his next fight.
Khamzat Chimaev repeatedly called Covington out for a fight, which the No.2-ranked contender ignored. Belal Muhammad has been calling out 'Chaos' but hasn't received a response from the all-American fighter. As of yet, Covington has not been booked for a fight.
