Colby Covington goes off on Shavkat Rakhmonov over accusations of "posturing," 'Nomad' quickly hits back
Former interim UFC welterweight champion Colby Covington recently went on an expletive-heavy rant directed at UFC welterweight challenger Shavkat Rakhmonov. If you're a fan of the foul-mouthed 'Chaos', you'd this is normal content coming from the polarizing welterweight.
Still, from the way Covington phrased his words and the intense tone of his voice, something tells us that Rakhmonov may have gotten under his skin. Sporting a white MAGA hat with a beautiful golf course in the backdrop, Covington said:
“Someone just showed me Rubenstein’s tweet for that big dummy s*** rat. Listen up, junior, translate this to whatever caveman dialect you need to, and get it through your big empty skull attached to that gumby-a** body. I don’t posture and I don’t bluff. As soon as I get off this beautiful five-star Trump golf course, located in the heart of MAGA country… I’m calling Hunter [Campbell] and Dana [White] and we can all see who is posturing for clicks, bozoo!”
Rakhmonov responded in the comments section, saying:
"Let’s go, I’m ready! Your talking will not help you in the octagon"
At the moment, no official fights have been booked for either Covington or Rakhmonov. Covington was last seen in action late last year at UFC 296 in a losing effort against then-world champion Leon Edwards. As for Rakhmonov, he's supposed to face reigning UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad in the main event of UFC 310 in December. However, Muhammad pulled out due to injury, leaving Rakhmonov without an opponent.
Perhaps Covington is a worthy replacement? We'll see how his meeting with White and Campbell goes.
What did Shavkat Rakhmonov say that seems to have upset Colby Covington
As pointed out earlier, Shavkat Rakhmonov may have gotten under Colby Covington's skin - so much that the American former interim champion made a video rant about him.
On the heels of the cancellation of Rakhmonov's world title bout with Belal Muhammad at UFC 310, the UFC has been scrambling for over a week now looking for a replacement. During this time, talks of several fighters as replacements have been going around, with names like Kamaru Usman, Jack Della Maddalena, and Covington getting thrown into the mix.
Perhaps getting tired of all the talk and no concrete fight bookings, Rakhmonov took to X, saying:
"All I hear are empty callouts! No real intention, no action. Just posturing for the media and fans @USMAN84kg @ColbyCovMMA"
Calling out Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman is quite smart. These two men are arguably the most profitable names in the division. The Kazakh fighter also knew that he'd get a reaction from the two, especially from Covington - which can create drama and interest. Let's see if the UFC catches the bait.
