Colby Covington throws the sink at Khamzat Chimaev, slams his alleged unreadiness for UFC 286 backup fighter role
Colby Covington recently lashed out at Khamzat Chimaev. Fans touted Chimaev as being Covington's next bout, but that was dismissed when Dana White stated that "Chaos" would face Edwards next for the welterweight title.
After UFC 286, where Covington weighed in as a back-up fighter, he returned to doing a ton of media after a long hiatus. Speaking to submission radio, he said:
"I think someone was texting me, saying that he was promising on his Quran? Man that's so bad, to go on your own religion, you're lying on your own religion...you can go talk to Dana, you can go talk to Hunter...I was so excited to fight him the whole time.
"He has no gas, he has no cardio, he can't keep up with me for five fucking rounds...are you kidding me? You saw what Gilbert did to him for three rounds. Can you imagine what the cardio king, the best welterweight of all time, Colby would do to him?"
Then, Covington went on to use his status as the back-up fighter for UFC 286 as justification for him not fighting Chimaev:
"If he was ready, why wasn't he the backup fighter for the world championship this week in London?"

After the events of UFC 286, Dana White confirmed at the post-fight press conference that Colby Covington would be next in line for the title:
"Yeah, I don't know when we'll do it, but that's the fight that makes sense. Colby came here and cut weight, did everything to be here for the fight...he deserves the fight...not to mention the fact that he's the second or third best guy in the world." (2:35)
