"Conor would get killed" - Sean O'Malley weighs in on Canelo Alvarez's potential boxing fight against 'The Notorious'

Sean O'Malley is admittedly a fan of Conor McGregor but does not believe he would have any chance of success at the highest level of boxing. Ahead of Noche UFC 306, O'Malley was asked for his thoughts on a potential fight between McGregor and Canelo Alvarez and was quick to give his honest answer.

'Sugar' immediately shot down the idea, saying McGregor would get "killed" by Alvarez in a boxing fight. However, he backed up that sentiment by admitting that he would be "scared" to fight Alvarez in boxing, believing that he is one of the best boxers of all time.

O'Malley said:

"Conor would get killed. Dude, Canelo's scary. I would be scared for my life if I had to box Canelo."

Alvarez is currently a consensus top-five pound-for-pound boxer in the world, being ranked as high as No. 4 on several credentialed media sources entering his upcoming title defense against Edgar Berlanga. With a 61-2-2 record, he has never lost at super middleweight and only owns defeats to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Dmitry Bivol.

Alvarez will be competing on the same night as O'Malley on Sept. 14, defending his undisputed super middleweight titles against Edgar Berlanga. Both events will be in Las Vegas with Noche UFC 306 headlining The Sphere and Alvarez's fight in the T-Mobile Arena.

Sean O'Malley vs. Merab Dvalishvili at Noche UFC 306

While Canelo Alvarez defends his title, Sean O'Malley will put his UFC bantamweight belt on the line at roughly the same time against Merab Dvalishvili. The fight will be the last of 10 fights on Noche UFC 306.

Dvalishvili will be O'Malley's second opponent since becoming champion and first matchup with a top-five opponent since he knocked out Aljamain Sterling to win the belt at UFC 292. 'The Machine' enters the fight on a 10-fight win streak and has not lost since 2018.

Noche UFC 306 is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. ET / 11:30 p.m. GMT on ESPN+. The pay-per-view main card will follow at 10 p.m. ET / 2 a.m. GMT on ESPN+ PPV with the main event walkouts estimated for midnight E.T. / 4 a.m. GMT.
