Conor McGregor accepts fight against Dustin Poirier; pledges $500k towards Good Fight Foundation
In recent weeks, Conor McGregor has had his fair share of issues with UFC President Dana White. So much so, that the former UFC Double Champion even offered to rematch fellow lightweight Dustin Poirier for charity under the McGregor Sports And Entertainment Limited banner.
The duo first fought at UFC 148, with McGregor making light work of Poirier in under 2 minutes.
However, following Dana White's recent claims of offering a fight to both McGregor and Poirier, the Irishman himself has now confirmed on Twitter that he's ready to rematch The Diamond inside the Octagon. But, McGregor did add a condition to it, as he noted that the fight must happen in 2020 itself.
Conor McGregor accepts UFC's offer to fight Dustin Poirier
In a recent tweet, former UFC Featherweight and Lightweight Champion, Conor McGregor responded to Dustin Poirer and wrote that he has accepted the UFC's offer.
With the recent number of hits the UFC 255 card has taken, the Irishman claimed that he is willing to offer his services on November 21st or any of the December dates, specifically mentioning the 12th and 19th.
Lastly, Conor McGregor also concluded his tweet by mentioning that he will still donate 500k to The Good Fight Foundation charity run by former interim lightweight champion. Here is Conor McGregor's message:
Conor McGregor's last UFC fight
In January of 2020, Conor McGregor made his return to the Octagon for the first time since losing to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. McGregor took just 40 seconds to dispatch of veteran Donald Cerrone in the fight.
However, due to the lack of audience during the COVID-19 pandemic, the UFC has failed to negotiate a fight deal with the former two-division champion since. The UFC's rationale that they don't stand to earn anything through ticket sales and all the fan-oriented sales that generally occur during a McGregor fight prevented them from offering the Irishman an acceptable amount of money to fight again.
However, McGregor was of the mind to make 2020 a 'season' wherein he would fight three to four times. As a result, the negotiations between the two parties took an ugly turn after he publicly tweeted out screenshots of his conversation with Dana White, criticizing the company's lack of intent in offering him a fight.
Despite that misunderstanding, it would seem that the two parties have come to terms now.
Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier, the rematch, may be on the cards.
