Conor McGregor chrome trading card sold for a significant loss amid the Irishman's long recess

Conor McGregor is undoubtedly the biggest superstar to ever compete in the UFC. The Irishman boasts over 55 million followers on social media and has headlined a whopping five out of the six highest-earning pay-per-view events in UFC history.

Unsurprisingly, McGregor's rookie cards have also been the highest-selling item in terms of collector interest when it comes to UFC trading cards. Rookie cards are essentially trading cards featuring athletes after they have participated in the highest level of competition in their respective sports.

However, it seems the Irishman's long hiatus from the octagon has negatively affected the valuation of his trading cards. Topps, the company that owns the primary UFC trading card license, recently sold a one-of-one 2017 Conor McGregor card for $33,600.

Veteran journalist Chamatkar Sandhu tweeted out the news of the sale today.

"This 2017 Topps UFC Chrome Superfractor Conor McGregor 1/1 graded PSA 10 GEM MINT just sold on the @PWCCmarketplace for $33,600."

While the five-figure price is quite impressive, Twitter user @Swagman_79 commented that the listing price of the same card was originally $73,800 but had to be marked down due to a dip in the popularity of UFC trading cards.

@SandhuMMA @PWCCmarketplace @PSAcard @Topps @TheNotoriousMMA That’s a bad loss tho https://t.co/t6G00DRT7n
@SandhuMMA Pretty sure the ufc card market tanked like right around that time too lol

Conor McGregor suggests management change for Francis Ngannou after UFC exit

Conor McGregor recently offered Francis Ngannou some advice after 'The Predator' officially left the UFC due to unresolved contract issues with the promotion.

Dana White made the announcement at the UFC Vegas 67 post-fight presser and also stated that Ngannou would be stripped of his heavyweight title, which will now be challenged for by Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane at UFC 285.

Dana White announces Francis Ngannou's release from the UFC.

"We offered Francis a deal that would've made him the highest paid heavyweight in the history of the company, more than [Brock] Lesnar, more than anybody."

Reacting to a quote from Ngannou during his recent interview with Ariel Helwani, Conor McGregor suggested Francis Ngannou should "seek" better representation and posted a story on Instagram putting forth his friend Audie Attar's agency.

"Correct representation is imperative. Seek @paradigmsports."

While it is unclear what Ngannou's next career move will be, McGregor is highly expected to make his return to the UFC octagon this year. 'The Notorious' has been absent from action since fracturing his leg in his last fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021.

After much time on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation, McGregor announced his intention to re-enter the USADA testing pool this February and book a fight soon after. Michael Chandler seems to be the frontrunner to be his first opponent back.

I am clear for testing in February. I will complete my two tests per USADA and we are booking a fight.
