Conor McGregor falls out of the official UFC rankings
Conor McGregor has been left out of the latest UFC rankings.
The UFC updated its official rankings with several changes in the lightweight division. Mateusz Gamrot moved up to number seven, switching spots with Rafael dos Anjos, now number eight. Grant Dawson was also introduced into the rankings at number fourteen, removing McGregor.
‘The Notorious’ remained in the UFC lightweight rankings despite his last win at 155 pounds being against Eddie Alvarez in 2016. Since then, McGregor has lost two lightweight fights to Dustin Poirier and Khabib Nurmagomedov. He also lost to Poirier at welterweight but beat Donald Cerrone at 170 pounds to split his losses to Nurmagomedov and ‘The Diamond'.
McGregor has been in the UFC rankings since beating Max Holloway at featherweight in August 2013. ‘The Notorious’ beat Holloway in his second UFC fight and went on to knock out Jose Aldo for the title. The former two-division champion is now looking to bounce back from injury and fight for another UFC title.
Michael Bisping believes Conor McGregor could get a title shot by beating Michael Chandler in his UFC return
Conor McGregor suffered a brutal leg injury in his last fight against Dustin Poirer. The 34-year-old former UFC champion is finalizing his recovery and plans to return in 2023. The question is, who will be his opponent? During a video on his YouTube channel, Michael Bisping had this about a potential title shot path for ‘The Notorious’ :
"Conor's got all the money in the world but he wants that [UFC title], so you gotta respect that about him. And coming back against Michael Chandler, if he gets the job done, well it wouldn't be crazy to think about a title fight next. It really wouldn't, Chandler is still one of the top dogs. If he beats him, if he connects, if he gets a knockout, my God, he's in a title fight next."
Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler is gaining momentum, but there are still several concerns to be cleared. ‘The Notorious’ has not completed his mandatory six months of USADA drug testing, which he plans to get exempt from. It’s also unclear if he intends to fight for a title at 155 or 170 pounds. The former two-division champion is once again showing unpredictable tendencies.
