Conor McGregor makes more than a million dollars as Argentina cruises to Copa America glory despite Lionel Messi injury

The Argentina soccer team has added another Copa America trophy to their long list of laurels and Conor McGregor has profited immensely from the La Albiceleste's triumph.

Earlier this month the former UFC two-division champion had made a $365,000 bet on Argentina to win the Copa America, with a winning potential of $1,003,750. Sharing a screenshot on his bet on Instagram, 'The Notorious' wrote:

"The World Cup champs aim to follow in The Mac's footsteps by becoming Champ Champs by lifting the Copa America trophy. The OG Champ is behind you!"

While La Albiceleste fans around the globe were distraught to see their leading man Lionel Messi leave the field mid-game due to injury, Lautaro Martinez shook their opponents' net at the 122-minute mark during extra time, to defeat Colombia in the finals.

With the win Argentina has expanded their Copa trophy repertoire to 16. The Lionel Messi-led squad is also the 2022 FIFA World Cup champions.

The cherry on the top for the squad is the fact that Martinez is set to bag the Golden Boot for the tournament with five goals to his name.

McGregor is certainly on a hot streak on the betting tables. Earlier this weekend, the UFC megastar bagged another $1 million with his successful bet on Spain to win the Euros.

Furthermore, the Irishman had recently won $1.6 million betting on Nate Diaz to defeat Jorge Masvidal in the headliner of the 'Last Man Standing' boxing card.

Despite his streak of luck in sports betting, he has been down on luck recently when it comes to his fighting career. While the 36-year-old was supposed to make a grand return to the octagon at UFC 303 in June, an injured pink toe has further delayed his comeback.

While the UFC would be salivating at the opportunity to book him for later in the year, many believe the world's premier MMA promotion lacks any McGregor-worthy fight cards in the near future.
