Conor McGregor reacts to winning a fortune on Nate Diaz's victory over Jorge Masvidal
Conor McGregor seems to have benefited tremendously from Nate Diaz's win over Jorge Masvidal in the recent boxing match. The duo previously fought for the ceremonial BMF title in the UFC with Masvidal defeating Diaz by TKO. However, fighting under boxing rules in the rematch stripped Masvidal of a lot of weapons that helped him get the best of Diaz in MMA.
McGregor, who has fought Diaz twice and had a heated social media rivalry with Masvidal, predicted a Diaz victory heading into the boxing match and felt confident to bet a six-figure amount on the Stockton native. He wrote:
"I’ve decided to put $500,000 on Diaz to win tonight’s boxing match. Range, form, experience, solely hands being used, I can’t see Masvidal causing any problems to Nate in a boxing ring whatsoever. They are both little play around dipsh**s in a fight, play around bollox, but I feel Nate does him in EASY here for real. $500k gets me back $1,625,000 all in. @Duelbits #bestodds"
After Diaz secured a majority decision win over Masvidal on July 6, McGregor reacted to his post declaring the intention to bet $500,000 and wrote:
"THE RICH GET RICHER!!! Well done Nate, congrats!"
Diaz vs. Masdival was an interesting stylistic matchup. While Diaz peppered Masvidal with high-volume strikes for long stretches of the fight, 'Gamebred' landed the most damaging strikes of the fight in short bursts. However, the cumulative impact was not enough to halt Diaz's advances or convince the judges, resulting in a majority decision win for the Stockton native.
McGregor, who is currently recovering from a toe injury that forced him to pull out of the UFC 303 fight against Michael Chandler, has entertained the idea of a trilogy fight against Diaz. Meanwhile, Masvidal has expressed the desire to compete againt the Irishman in a few social media interactions.
