Conor McGregor reveals the dreadful moment when he thought his MMA career was over

Conor McGregor has opened up on the dreadful moment when he thought he might have to call it quits in his MMA career.

The Irishman was last seen inside the octagon in July 2021 in a trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier. Going into the bout with the scores settled from their previous two fights, McGregor was keen to put an end to his rivalry against Poirier.

However, that didn't turn out to be the case. Instead, Conor McGregor broke his foot and the bout ended with a doctor's stoppage. The injury has been the main reason for McGregor's recent absence from the octagon. Speaking about his injury during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, 'The Notorious' suggested that he thought his MMA career might be over.

However, McGregor then went on to speak about the importance of the will in getting over what life throws at you and stated:

"At the time, I thought, you know? Maybe I won't be able to do this again for sure, that was in my thoughts. Was I thinking of not making the walk or maybe the role if I was in a fu*king chair? Never. I was actually, you know, where there's a will, there's a way Ariel. If you're willing, you're able."

Conor McGregor speaks about his return against Michael Chandler

As mentioned earlier, 'The Notorious' has been absent from the octagon since 2021. However, he is set to return to the cage in a highly anticipated bout against Michael Chandler.

During a recent interview with Barstool Sports' Robbie Fox, McGregor suggested that he has fought a similar opponent in the past, while Michael Chandler hasn't faced anyone quite like the former UFC champion.

While suggesting that he's going to show the difference in skill level between them, Conor McGregor said:

"I'm just too slick for him. Too skilled for him. And he's not fought someone like me. I've fought someone like him, though... He's had some excellent fights and he's earned this right to be in this position but it'll be my job now on fight night to show the levels and show that there's a much higher difference in skill level here."
