"The OG of fashion and male style"- Conor McGregor reveals the inspiration for his own dressing style
In a 2019 interview with GQ, Conor McGregor revealed the fashion icon who inspired his dressing style.
‘The Notorious’ has gained a reputation for living a lavish life. Before becoming a multi-millionaire, McGregor was an up-and-coming MMA fighter who found inspiration from others for various aspects of his life.
The former two-division UFC champion spoke with GQ magazine in 2019 to discuss fashion. He was asked about people who inspired his dressing style and hailed former English soccer player David Beckham as his inspiration:
“For me, the OG of fashion and male style is David Beckham. David Beckham was a pioneer. He paved the way for that kind of style. I actually talked to David; he sent me some clothes. At my daughter’s christening, my sister bought a dress from Victoria Beckham’s own line for the event. We have to go to David for inspiration, who I’d look up to style-wise back in the day. But, really, my icons in style would be my mother and my father, who inspired me.”
During his rise in the UFC, Conor McGregor turned up to media day appearances, press conferences and faceoffs in suits while his peers typically wore regular clothes. His choice of attire, combined with his brash outspoken persona and fighting style, saw the masses gravitate towards the Irishman.
Conor McGregor reveals timeframe for UFC return
Conor McGregor last fought in July 2021, losing to Dustin Poirier for the second consecutive time. Since then, McGregor has been rehabbing a broken leg and starring in a Road House remake with Jake Gyllenhaal. In a recent Instagram live session, the former two-division champion discussed his return:
"I'm gonna be back soon, hopefully. Early 2023 I'm aiming for. You know, sometime in that first quarter. That'll give me a good couple of months. Once I wrap this [fliming for his movie] in a couple of days, get this camp going, [a] good couple of months, and get going."
