Conor McGregor reveals plans to sponsor Katie Taylor vs. Chantelle Cameron in Dublin

Katie Taylor is apparently going to get a big boost from Conor McGregor for her next fight.

'KT' was originally slated to face Amanda Serrano in their high-profile rematch later this year in Ireland. Despite hailing from the country, Taylor has not competed in Ireland in her professional boxing career thus far.

Prior to the bout, 'The Notorious' stated his intentions to help promote the fight. A former UFC double-champion, McGregor stated that he would help secure Croke Park for Taylor vs. Serrano 2. Sadly, those plans went awry, as 'The Real Deal' withdrew from the rematch due to injury earlier this month.

Undisputed 140-pound champion Chantelle Cameron will defend her titles against undisputed lightweight champion Katie Taylor on May 20 at the 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland, a source told @MikeRothstein. https://t.co/4g4juvyf4b

As a result, Katie Taylor is now set to face Chantelle Cameron in May at the 3Arena in Dublin. While the matchup with 'Capo' doesn't have as much attention as the rematch with Serrano, Conor McGregor is still interested.

In a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the former UFC champion revealed his plans to support the event. McGregor revealed:

“The Katie Taylor situation. I am involved. So, I’m gonna support the event, I’m gonna sponsor the event. Now it’s going to be in the O2, I wanted to get it in Croke Park. We are pushing still for Croke Park… And we’re pushing for September [for Taylor vs. Serrano 2]."

Conor McGregor discusses Katie Taylor fighting at Croke Park

For Conor McGregor, securing Katie Taylor a fight at Croke Park is bigger than both of them.

The venue is the third biggest in Europe and the largest overall in Ireland. The stadium can hold upwards of 80,000 fans and is traditionally used for Gaelic football, curling, soccer, and more.

However, what it hasn't been used for is to hold a combat sports event. That's despite the fact that McGregor, Taylor, and other Irish fighters have called for an event over the years.

Eddie Hearn has previously spoken about the difficulties associated with securing Croke Park. However, McGregor is undeterred and is planning on getting the venue to hold Taylor's rematch with Serrano later this year. Not just for themselves but all fighters in Ireland.

On The MMA Hour, McGregor stated:

“It’s such a great arena. To get a combat event in Croke Park, for all those combat enthusiasts and Martial Artists of Ireland would be a dream. So, I would love to see Katie do it."
