Conor McGregor shows extraordinary support for Donald Trump after failed attack on ex-President's life: "Running for the love of his country"

Conor McGregor is not a United States citizen but was one of thousands who offered their praise for Donald Trump after an unnamed supporter of Joe Biden attempted to kill him on July 13. Trump was speaking at a presidential rally in Pennsylvania for the upcoming 2024 presidential election when he was shot.

McGregor tweeted his support of the former president roughly one hour after the attack occurred, which was broadcast live in the United States. The former two-division UFC champion praised Trump for "running for the love of his country" instead of enjoying a quiet retirement like a typical "78-year-old multi-billionaire."

McGregor wrote:

"[As] a 78-year-old multiple billionaire he should be on a yacht on the med touring golf courses. But he is not. He is in Pennsylvania spitting out bullets! Running for the love of his country! God speed Donald! God bless the United States"

As a native of Dublin, Ireland, McGregor purchased a mansion in Las Vegas following his financial breakthrough in 2017 but is not a documented American citizen. 'The Notorious' still spends most of his time in his home country with his wife, Dee Devlin, and four children.

The 35-year-old does not often involve himself in American politics but could not miss out on the monumental moment with the assassination attempt being just the 12th in United States history. Several other presidents have been the target of murder plots but only 12 were attacked in public.

What happened to Donald Trump?

While speaking to an audience member in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, Donald Trump was shot in the ear by a suspected Joe Biden supporter. The gunshot was one of several aimed at the presidential candidate but he appeared to only be hit once with the bullet causing no serious damage.

After ducking for cover and being assisted by the Secret Service, Trump rose to his feet with blood on his face and raised his fist in the air to the cheer of the crowd. Conor McGregor, along with countless other MMA fighters and fans, showered the former president with praise for his bravery while praying for his well-being.

Within hours of the shooting, Trump was reported to be 'fine' by the Secret Service. The shooter has also been 'neutralized' according to local law enforcement.
