Conor McGregor urges UFC to sign Brendan Loughnane after the former DWCS contender wins PFL title by knocking out Bubba Jenkins
Conor McGregor seemingly believes that the UFC ought to sign newly-crowned PFL featherweight champion Brendan Loughnane. McGregor was all praise for the 32-year-old MMA stalwart from Manchester, England, labeling him an exciting fighter and citing his history with the UFC.
'The Notorious' suggested that Loughnane would be a lucrative addition to the UFC roster, particularly in the UK and European markets. Taking to his official Twitter account, the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champion wrote:
"UFC, sign Brendan Loughnane. Exciting fighter. A back story with the company. And of the European side. A money in the bank uk/Europe signing. Congrats on the win @BrendanMMA"
Conor McGregor's tweet came after Brendan Loughnane's impressive fourth-round TKO victory over Bubba Jenkins at the 2022 Season PFL Championships event that transpired on November 25th. The win earned Loughnane a $1 million payday and the PFL featherweight title.
In 2019, Loughnane competed in the UFC's DWCS (Dana White's Contender Series) show and beat Bill Algeo via unanimous decision. However, UFC president Dana White chose not to sign Loughnane to the organization at the time.
On that note, the Manchester native has risen to prominence since winning the PFL featherweight title and also earned Conor McGregor's endorsement. Regardless, whether or not Loughnane does end up getting an opportunity to compete in the UFC remains to be seen.
Aljamain Sterling proposes an ideal opponent for Conor McGregor's comeback fight
MMA icon Conor McGregor's most recent fight was a first-round TKO loss against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. The lightweight matchup witnessed McGregor suffer a gruesome leg injury. The Irishman hasn't fought since. However, he's expected to return to the octagon in early 2023, likely at welterweight.
Speaking of which, UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling recently opined that UFC lightweight star Michael Chandler would be an ideal opponent for McGregor in the latter's comeback.
Back in May, Michael Chandler secured a thunderous second-round KO win over Tony Ferguson and challenged Conor McGregor to a fight at welterweight. However, Chandler's last fight saw him lose via third-round submission to Dustin Poirier earlier this month.
In a video posted to his FunkMasterMMA YouTube channel, Aljamain Sterling emphasized that Chandler ought to return to his winning ways to earn a big-money fight against UFC megastar McGregor. Proposing a McGregor-Chandler matchup, Sterling stated:
"You gotta eventually win to keep your job. I would like to see him do the Eddie Alvarez vs. Chandler 3. Have them do that in the UFC, one final song...or sign him [Chandler] up for McGregor, see who gets fed to who. I would like to see where McGregor is at mentally, physically."
