Cris Cyborg gets sarcastic with Ronda Rousey for undermining Gina Carano's MMA feats

Cris Cyborg has criticized Ronda Rousey's recent remarks regarding Gina Carano's accomplishments in MMA.

In a recent interview, Rousey, who has previously called Carano an inspiration for her own fighting career, downplayed Carano's impact on the sport. Rousey suggested Carano's success in Strikeforce, a rival promotion to the UFC, was due to her father's influence on the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

‘Rowdy’ said:

“The spot below the glass ceiling was Strikeforce Championship, which was basically only there because Gina Carano, her dad was connected with the Las Vegas Athletic commission and started sanctioning MMA fights just for her.”

Cyborg, a fellow MMA legend and rival of Rousey, took to social media to mock Rousey's comments. She sarcastically wrote:

“The original Kayla Gump”

referring to the low-IQ character played by Tom Hanks in the classic ‘Forrest Gump’ movie.

This isn't the first time Cyborg has used this reference. She previously used 'Kayla Gump' to troll fellow fighter Kayla Harrison upon Harrison's transition to the UFC, effectively ending talks of a potential fight between the two.

Cris Cyborg refutes Ronda Rousey's GOAT claim

Cris Cyborg has fired back at Ronda Rousey's recent claim of being the "greatest fighter that ever lived."

Rousey, the former UFC women's bantamweight champion who retired after suffering two brutal knockout losses, made the comments during an interview with Valeria Lipovetsky. She attributed her decline to the toll of fighting, including multiple concussions.

"People making all these judgements about me in a fight, when I was literally, my first loss, I was not like - my mouthguard was bad. I literally came into that fight concussed from slipping down some stairs already after all these years of concussions. And then, I had an absolutely terrible weight cut, which means you have less fluid in your brain to protect it."

She further added:

"I know that I'm the greatest fighter that has ever lived, but when it got to a point where I'd just taken so much neurological damage that I couldn't take it anymore, suddenly everything I accomplished meant nothing."

However, Cyborg took aim at Rousey's justifications for her losses and her self-proclaimed GOAT status. In a social media post, Cyborg wrote:

“Poor girl still suffering from CTE. I hope she finally got a good mouth guard.”
