Dan Hooker gives five-word reaction to Dustin Poirier denying him rematch in online back-and-forth
Dan Hooker recently clapped back at Dustin Poirier after 'The Diamond' turned down his request for a potential rematch. All of this took place after the former interim lightweight champion suggested a possible trilogy involving another lightweight fighter.
As Poirier nears the end of his career, he is reportedly searching for the next big showdown. 'The Diamond' recently took to X and hinted at a potential trilogy fight with former BMF champion Justin Gaethje. This prompted a reaction from Hooker, who himself hinted at a potential rematch with Poirier in a post on X, writing:
''Rematch.''
Poirier responded by sending a strong warning to Hooker, writing:
''You Don't really want that @danthehangman''
In response to Poirier's stern warning, Hooker took a sly jab and wrote:
''Who you trying to fool.''
Hooker was on a three-fight win streak before his bout with Poirier at UFC Vegas 4. Meanwhile, the 35-year-old entered the fight with a third-round submission loss to former champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
The fight lasted 25 minutes and was one of the most violent the UFC Apex has seen. 'The Hangman' wounded Poirier numerous times in the opening two rounds, however, the former lightweight title challenger bounced back and won the bout via unanimous decision.
Hooker is once again riding a three-fight win streak with victories over Claudio Puelles and Jalin Turner, breaking his arm against the 29-year-old. After spending a year on the sidelines, the Kiwi returned to the octagon with a split-decision win against Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 305 last month.
Meanwhile, Poirier made his third attempt at the lightweight title in a fight against reigning champion Islam Mackhachev at UFC 302. The Louisiana native put on an amazing display against Mackhachev, but it was in vain as he was submitted in the fifth round.
Dan Hooker expresses his desire to face Conor McGregor
Following Dan Hooker's win at UFC 305, he was expected to face Charles Oliveira next. However, with Oliveira scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 309, Hooker's future remains uncertain.
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Hooker gave his take on facing Conor McGregor in a potential fight after McGregor's highly anticipated bout with Chandler at UFC 303 was canceled.
''We'll just see how everything plays out. Obviously, the Golden Goose [Conor McGregor] is without a dance partner as well. Me and Conor have no ill will towards each other, I don't think ever...It'll just be interesting. He's without a fight, I know Conor's hungry to fight, and fight someone he can get something from, and that makes a lot of sense."
